Supervision

Graduate chairs and directors of departments, centres and institutes, have the primary responsibility for PhD programs and the supervision of graduate students. The chair of the department has the principal obligation and authority for exercising these responsibilities in accordance with the Statute of the School (Endrenyi Report, 1984).

The SGS Calendar offers a formal description of the nature of graduate student supervision. The School of Graduate Studies provides resources for graduate units, graduate faculty members, and graduate students with respect to the supervisory relationship. Those resources include checklists for students, and advice from staff and vice-deans. For more information, please consult the brochure Graduate Supervision Guidelines for Students, Faculty, and Administrators (PDF).

Contact the SGS Vice-Dean or Student Services Officer of your division for supervision related queries.
