Academic Programs

The School of Graduate Studies is responsible for the oversight and quality assessment of more than 100 degree programs, several joint degree programs, more than 30 collaborative programs, and over 15 combined programs. All academic programs (definitions) [PDF] must be approved by designated governance bodies of the University and must be assessed as Good Quality by the Ontario Council on Graduate Studies.

Graduate units may access assistance and customized service for the development of new graduate programs, for preparation of appraisal materials, or other issues related to the structure and/or quality of graduate programs through the Quality Assessment and Governance Office. Before proceeding with a proposal, please consult with either the Vice-Dean of Programs or the Director of Quality Assessment and Governance, contact information below.

Centres and Institutes

In the past, SGS has been the home of several interdisciplinary graduate centres and institutes established by the Graduate Education Council, some of which offered graduate degree programs. With the increasing pervasiveness of interdisciplinary scholarship in all the Faculties of the University, each of the SGS Centres and Institutes was moved to an appropriate faculty home by July 1, 2009.
