The African Leaders of Tomorrow (ALT) Scholarship Program
The African Leaders of Tomorrow (ALT) Scholarship Program will grant scholarships to young African women and men to pursue a master's degree in public administration, public policy, or public finance in Canada. Scholarships will be awarded based on merit to young professionals from a range of sub-Saharan countries. Special consideration will be given to equitable representation across the continent and to the advancement of female leaders.
This program is undertaken with the financial support of the Government of Canada through the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD), and The MasterCard Foundation. Libyan-North American Scholarship Program
The Libyan-North American Scholarship Program is a collaboration between the Libyan Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), funded by the Libyan government.
Students of the scholarship program are sponsored to enrol in a wide variety of master and doctoral programs. The main programs of interest include: engineering, natural sciences, computer sciences, accounting, economics, business administration, and aviation-related majors. Students should check with the CBIE for a complete list.
Students sponsored under this program receive a monthly stipend to cover living expenses, an annual book allowance, computer allowance, as well as full medical and dental insurance (including accompanying family members/dependents) for the complete period of their stay in Canada. This program also pays tuition fees.

China Scholarship: China Scholarship Council
In partnership with the University of Toronto, the China Scholarship Council (CSC) offers scholarships to outstanding Chinese students who will pursue doctoral or postdoctoral studies at U of T. For doctoral students selected by the CSC, U of T undertakes to cover the cost of tuition while the CSC will provide the student with a stipend sufficient to cover living expenses (including UHIP), return airfare and visa application fees. For selected postdoctoral fellows, the CSC will provide a postdoctoral award and U of T supervisors will provide additional financial support.

Mexico Scholarship: CONACYT
The National Council for Science and Technology/The Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnologia (CONACYT) is an organization funded by the Mexican government that has been encouraging the development of professionals of the highest quality for more than 30 years.
The University of Toronto and the Government of the United Mexican States' National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) have renewed their partnership by signing an agreement to support up to 150 scholarships over the period of the 5-year agreement for Mexican students who have already completed a master's degree to pursue doctoral education at the University of Toronto.
Mexican state governments and other national government agencies (e.g. Ministry of Energy) offer other forms of scholarship assistance to Mexican nationals in partnership with CONACYT, including those for pursuing research-master's programs at overseas universities. Faculty members interested in admitting students applying to CONACyT scholarships for research-master's are encouraged to connect with SGS.
CONACyT will provide successful PhD applicants funding to cover tuition (up to $21,000 CAD/Yr), health insurance (generally up to 715 USD/Yr.), and living expenses (generally up to 13,200 USD/Yr.) for 4 years.
U of T: Financial obligations for graduate units/supervisors accepting CONACyT scholarship recipients will be contingent on departmental funding guidelines.
Cohorts (by admission period) that will be funded under this program: Fall 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022
In order to qualify for a CONACYT doctoral scholarship, applicants must be Mexican citizens.
PhD degree program applicants must also meet all of the U of T's requirements for admission to a doctoral program. Typically, this entails the prior completion of a degree equivalent to a U of T Master's for a PhD program, as well as meeting the minimum academic and English language requirements. In order to apply for this CONACYT scholarship, applicants must already have received an offer of admission from the University of Toronto.
While applicants from all disciplines are welcome, CONACYT has identified the following fields of study as priority areas for CONACYT scholarship funding:
- Biotechnology and Agricultural Sciences;
- Biology and chemistry;
- Medicine and health;
- Earth Sciences;
- Industrial manufacturing technologies;
- Information technology and telecommunications;
- Applied mathematics and modeling.
How to Apply
Step 1: Apply to the University of Toronto for admission to a PhD program as required, but early enough to obtain an official offer of admission letter before CONACYT application deadline.
IMPORTANT: When applying, indicate on the SGS Online Admissions Application that you will be applying for the " CONACYT – UToronto Program". In addition, make sure to notify the graduate unit, and your potential supervisor that you will also be applying for a CONACYT scholarship.
Step 2: Apply to CONACYT between April and June of each year as per instructions on the CONACYT website. Once you receive the appropriate official U of T offer of admission letter (which may specifically reference the conditional CONACYT funding), you may then use this letter to include in your CONACYT application.

Connaught International Scholarships for Doctoral Students
The Connaught International Scholarship for Doctoral Students is a cost-sharing initiative designed to assist graduate units in recruiting and supporting top international students by providing a top-up scholarship to each recipient to be paid in addition to the normal funding package provided by the unit.
Value & Duration
UPDATED:As of 2018-2019, successful Connaught Scholars will be awarded a fixed scholarship amount of $10,000 annually for the duration of the unit's normal funding period.
The scholarship will be provided as a $10,000 top-up to the program's normal funding package (base amount + tuition and fees) to a total of no less than $35,000 annually;
Where a unit's funding package is less than $25,000, the Connaught top-up will be increased to bridge the difference in the unit's normal funding package so the combined total is $35,000;
The unit funding package may consist of various internal and external funding sources including, awards such as a University of Toronto Fellowship (UTF), on-campus employment (e.g., teaching assistantships), and/or research assistantships;
The Connaught is renewable on an annual basis and may be held for four to five years, depending on the standard period of the
program's normal funding, provided the student maintains good academic standing and continues to meet recipient eligibility requirements.
Nominees must be new international applicants who have been or will be offered admission to full-time doctoral or doctoral-stream programs with a funding commitment.
Nominees must begin their program in the 2018-2019 academic year (no later than Fall 2018).
Nominees who will begin as master's students in a doctoral-stream program must transfer to the graduate unit's doctoral program within the standard reclassification time period.
Award holders who later become permanent residents of Canada will continue to be eligible to hold the award.

Delta Kappa Gamma World Fellowships
The World Fellowship Fund was established to provide opportunities for women from foreign countries to pursue graduate studies in Canada and the United States.
Eligible applicants must be female, international registered, full-time master's or doctoral students. Applicants cannot be a citizen or landed immigrant of Canada or the United States. The award value is $4,000 USD.

Mitacs Globalink Graduate Fellowship
Are you a Mitacs Globalink alumnus interested in graduate or post-graduate studies at the University of Toronto?
Mitacs Globalink Graduate Fellowship provides support to former Globalink students interested in returning to Canada for graduate studies, in collaboration with their partner universities.
Eligible candidates are top undergraduate students who have completed the Mitacs Globalink summer research program. The Globalink program currently accepts students from India, China, Brazil, and Mexico. Applicants will be pursuing research-based master's or PhD studies at the University of Toronto starting in September 2014.

Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS)
The Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) program is designed to encourage excellence in graduate studies at the master's and doctoral levels.
Value & Duration
OGS is awarded for only one academic year, which can consist of two or three consecutive terms (one-term awards are not granted). OGS awards are $5,000 per term.
A total of approximately 3,000 scholarships are awarded annually province-wide. Of these, approximately 20 scholarships are awarded to visa students at the University of Toronto.

Ontario Trillium Scholarship (OTS)
The Ontario Trillium Scholarship (OTS) is designed to attract international PhD students to the University of Toronto.
Value & Duration
The University of Toronto will have 15 awards to distribute annually. The OTS is held for four years and renewed to the student for each of the three years following the first year, provided the student maintains good academic standing and continues to meet recipient eligibility requirements.
Please note that students who intend to begin in a masters program and transfer to a PhD within 12 months are not eligible for the OTS program. Nominees must be entering a PhD program directly.

Established with initial funding from the Donner Canadian Foundation, this Fellowship provides, on an annual basis, an established mechanism through which the University of Toronto is able to receive international graduate students who fall into one of the two categories listed below. This is a Fellowship that provides financial support for academic endeavours. Please note that the Fellowship does not provide any form of assistance in obtaining travel visas, or refugee status claims.
Eligible international students fall into two categories:
Students are currently in Canada as Protected Persons under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, but are unable to return to their home countries; or
Students whose academic careers have been impacted by changing political environments in their country of current study such as by changes in immigration law
As of the application deadline, be a Protected Person under subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) and be living in Canada; or be a graduate student whose current program of study has been impacted by changing political environments in their country of current study such as changes in immigration law;
Have an outstanding academic record as demonstrated by transcripts and other measures of scholarship;
Be registered, or have accepted an offer of admission as a new or transfer student to a full-time research stream master's or doctoral program at the University of Toronto for the 2018-19 academic year;
Demonstrate financial need through the application process; Priority will be given to applicants outside the funded cohort; and
Have demonstrated a commitment to enhancing the student experience of his/her peers through previous extracurricular leadership at a university and commitment to community outreach and involvement, as demonstrated by extracurricular activities beyond academe.
- In order to hold the Fellowship, currently registered students must remain registered for the 2018-19 academic year.
- Scholars-at-Risk Fellowship recipients may reapply to hold the award for a second year provided they continue to meet all eligibility criteria.

Massey College website by June 15 at 4:30 pm. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
Applications must include:
Completed application form (found on the

- Statement of Intent describing why applicant should be considered for the Scholar-at-Risk Fellowship. This statement should include background information on why the candidate came to Canada, or why they are seeking to study in Canada; their current circumstances, and why they are pursuing their chosen graduate program (2 pages max, single spaced, 12 pt font);
- Transcripts from all post-secondary institutions (scans of official, unofficial, student-issued or web transcripts are permitted), scanned together as one PDF file;
- Curriculum vitae outlining academic achievements, scholarships and awards received, plus publications, work experience, and extracurricular involvement both inside and outside a university. Extracurricular experience should be clearly separated into two categories: inside and outside of the university context;
- Copy of University of Toronto Offer of Admission letter if not currently registered in a program;
- If applicable, proof of Protected Person status (e.g. copy of the letter of determination from the Immigration and Refugee Board or Citizenship and Immigration Canada or Protected Person Status Document); and
- Leadership and community involvement reference letter – maximum two pages (written by someone who knows the candidate in an academic or a non-academic capacity). This letter is to be sent directly to Massey College as per application instructions.
The Leadership Letter may address the following:
impactful involvement and achievement in professional programs/associations such as sports, arts, science, business etc.
entrepreneurial achievement (start-up company); and/or
foreign travel and study.
Involvement in academic life:
involvement in student government and in the institution community, including committees, teams, senate, boards, ethics committees, etc.;
roles in academic/professional societies; and/or
organization of conferences, meetings, courses etc.
community involvement in charity or not-for-profit organizations.
parliamentary page positions and internships;
political activity; and/or
develops positive relationships with a diverse range of people;
cares about and listens to what others say and gives feedback;
knows how to motivate individuals;
is supportive of peers;
