Eligibility Criteria

At the time of application, an applicant must:

  • Be a domestic or international graduate student with citizenship from South Africa or the United Kingdom (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales)

  • Be registered full-time and will maintain full-time registration throughout the 2016-17 academic year

  • Demonstrate financial need

  • Demonstrate academic merit
    • Have achieved at least A- ("A-" = 80%)​ or equivalent in each of the last two completed years of study (full-time equivalent); 
      • ROSI print-out is sufficient for the U of T transcript. Each applicant must also provide a copy of their previous institution’s official transcript; this copy may be obtained upon request from the applicant's U of T graduate unit
    • Or if the student has completed two years of graduate studies, the student must only demonstrate an overall average of at least A- ("A-" = 80%) or equivalent on all graduate courses completed.
      • ROSI print-out is sufficient for the U of T transcript; in this case, a copy of the previous institution’s transcript is not required

Application & Nomination Procedure

  1. University-Wide Awards application form

  2. Completed financial need assessment section within the ​application form​

  3. Transcript(s), as per above

  4. A photocopy of relevant documentation as applicant's proof of citizenship from South Africa or the United Kingdom (e.g., passport)

  5. One letter of reference addressing the applicant’s academic merit from an academic supervisor/advisor or a faculty member familiar with the applicant’s academic work (one page maximum).
