GEC Elections
Fall 2011 By-Election
Each year, the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) holds elections to fill vacant seats on Graduate Education Council (GEC). On July 1, 2011, 6 seats were vacant. The call for nominations open from Sept. 2 to Sept. 16, 2011. Balloting was needed in two constituencies and ran from Sept. 23 to Oct. 7, 2011. Official results will be available here soon. Results
Official results will be announced at the next GEC meeting (scheduled for November 15, 2011), and posted shortly after.
Balloting
Balloting was required in two constituencies and was conducted online. There was one vacant seat and two nominees for faculty in SGS Division IV (Life Sciences), and two vacant seats and nine nominees for students in Division IV (Life Sciences). Nominees and their candidate's statements were listed here and on the ballot. Balloting opened Friday, September 23, 2011 and closed at 5:00 PM on Friday, October 7, 2011.
Vacant Seats
The following 6 seats were vacant in this election:
- 2 seats for full members (non-Emeritus) of faculty in a graduate units, as follows:
- 1 in Humanities
- 1 in Life Sciences
- 4 seats for graduate students registered in graduate units, as follows:
- 1 in Humanities
- 1 in Physical Sciences
- 2 in Life Sciences
Nomination Forms
To be valid, forms had to be returned to the Office of Quality Assessment and Governance, School of Graduate Studies, by Friday, September 16, 2011, at 5:00 p.m. A three-year GEC Membership History [PDF] is available for reference.
Previous Election
The Spring 2011 GEC election has ended. Official results were reported to GEC at its April 19, 2011, meeting; the report is also available separately [PDF].
