Governance Mandate
According to its Constitution [PDF], the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) is responsible for all graduate studies in the University of Toronto and for developing and implementing appropriate regulations and operating procedures for admissions, programs of study, and completion of degree requirements. SGS is governed by the Graduate Education Council (GEC).
Graduate curriculum is the responsibility of the Faculties involved in graduate education across the University. SGS is responsible for the University’s graduate Calendar and, as such, reviews all graduate curriculum proposals. Further information on graduate governance may be accessed on the Governance Procedures Web pages.
SGS is organized into four divisions: Humanities, Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Life Sciences. Each graduate department, centre, and institute belongs to one of the divisions.
