Collaborative Programs - General Guidelines
The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) currently offers approximately 40 graduate collaborative programs. Collaborative programs emerge from cooperation between two or more graduate units and their graduate programs. The collective experience of the participating graduate programs provides the student with a broader base from which to explore a novel interdisciplinary area or some special development in a particular discipline.
Collaborative programs are aligned with a "lead" Faculty and are administered and operated by a program director and committee. The program director is appointed by the Dean of SGS and should be aware of the General Guidelines [PDF]. In the case of a new collaborative program proposal, the first point of contact will be the Faculty Dean's Office. See also: Governance Procedures.
Quality Assurance Review Process for Collaborative Programs
The University of Toronto Quality Assurance Process (UTQAP) sets out overarching procedures for cyclical program reviews. They are administered through the Office of the Vice-Provost, Academic Programs. The Vice-Provost, Graduate Education, will be the Commissioning Officer for reviews of existing graduate collaborative programs. In some cases, the role of Commissioning Officer may be delegated to a lead Faculty Dean when it is agreed to ‘bundle’ the collaborative program review with the review of a closely associated unit or program.
Collaborative program directors will be required to participate in cyclical reviews according to an established schedule and should be aware of the Internal Quality Review: Terms of Reference and Self-Study Template [Word]. This document contains the template for the Self Study, including a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) template. All MOA are reviewed at the time of review.
