Fees & Deadlines

The following fees and deadlines apply for ETD submission.

Fees

Thesis processing fees cover some of the cost of reproduction, cataloguing, and indexing of the thesis by Proquest. Students will be required to pay $28.25 for thesis processing when they submit their theses to the School of Graduate Studies.

SGS has an online payment system for VISA and MasterCard payments which allows students to pay their thesis submission fee online. Please access the payment portal and follow the instructions; there is no need to inform SGS that you have made this payment.

To pay by debit, please make your payment between the hours of 10am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, on the ground floor at 63 St. George Street, and bring the provided receipt as proof of payment to the Doctoral or Masters Offices on the third floor, Room 304.

To pay by cheque or money order (made payable to the University of Toronto), please fill out the offline payment form and submit it, together with your payment, to the offices on the third floor, Room 304 or mail the form and payment to the appropriate office.

OISE students please visit your registrar to make offline payments (by debit, cheque or money order). Aerospace students, please consult your graduate unit.

Deadlines

Master's

Master's thesis submission deadlines are the same as the deadlines for departmental submission of “Degree Recommendation” forms. See the SGS calendar. Please note that the thesis title on the degree recommendation form must be identical to that on the title page of your thesis.

Doctoral

Submission of your defended, corrected thesis represents completion of your degree requirements and is therefore the factor that determines how your final tuition fee charges are calculated and when you can graduate.

Fees

For most Doctoral students in their final year, tuition (but not incidental fees) is pro-rated, and submission of the defended, corrected thesis by the 15th of the month means that the total of tuition fees owed will exclude fees for that month and subsequent months. Submission before the 15th of January, May, or September will allow you to avoid paying incidental fees for that session as well.

Graduation

Students must graduate at the convocation ceremony that follows their completion date. Deadlines will be found in the SGS calendar.
