SGS Conference Grant
The School of Graduate Studies Conference Grant program is intended to encourage students in doctoral-stream programs, professional masters programs (that can lead to a doctoral degree) and professional doctoral programs to actively present their research at a regional, national or international conference or equivalent academic event early in their program.

The MacKenzie King Travelling Scholarship- Now Closed
There are 2 types of Mackenzie King Scholarships: the “Open” Scholarship and the “Travelling” Scholarship. Both were established to support graduates of Canadian universities who are pursuing graduate studies.
Mackenzie King “Travelling” Scholarship
Open to graduates of any Canadian university who are pursuing postgraduate (Master’s or Doctoral/PhD) study in either the United States or the United Kingdom in the subject area of international relations or industrial relations (these aspects also included within law, history, politics and economics). This scholarship has previously been awarded to 4 individuals annually ($11,000.00 each), but the number and value could be subject to change.
Results
All applicants will be notified in March on whether or not their application will be forwarded on to the official competition (U of T is only permitted to nominate 2 individuals for the “Open” Scholarship and 2 individuals for the “Travelling” Scholarship).
Decisions in this national competition are usually announced by end of May.

Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements for NSERC/SSHRC/CIHR CGS-Award-Holders - Now Closed
The MS-FSS provides financial support to current Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS) recipients to study abroad for a portion of their study program. Eligible CGS-recipients may receive up to $6,000.00 for travel and accommodation to any eligible foreign university or research institution in the world.

Extended Deadline:
A number of Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) supplements still remain. In order to award the full annual allocation, CIHR is holding a third MSFSS competition. Interested applicants should speak to their graduate unit about submitting their application as soon as possible. Complete applications must be received by the Graduate Awards Office no later than February 16, 2012 at 4:00 pm.
SGS Research Travel Grant- Now Closed to Students

Eligibility
In order to be eligible for this award, a student must:
- Be registered full-time as a PhD student
- Be registered in a PhD program in Division 1 (Humanities) or Division 2 (Social Sciences)
- Be requesting funds to support their current PhD research – support specifically for research travel to sites within or outside of Canada that is necessary for the completion of their current program
- Be traveling between May 1, 2012 – April 30, 2013
Other conditions:
- Travel to conferences, exchange programs/courses or seminars, are not covered under this program
- Preference will be given to applicants who are applying for this award for the first time
- Preference will be given to students in the latter stage of their program
Application Procedure
The application requires a brief travel itinerary, budget information from the student confirmation from the student's supervisor that the student is in good academic standing, the travel is appropriate for the current thesis program, and that the budget information is accurate. A letter of reference is not required.

Friday February 24th midnight – Travel Grant closes to students
Friday March 2nd midnight – Travel Grant closes to Supervisors
All applicants will be notified in May 2012 as to the results of their application.
Value
Grant values vary. Not all projects are funded and the funding awarded may not cover the entire amount requested by the applicant.
Activation
A completed Payment Activation Form along with supporting documentation must be emailed to travelgrant@sgs.utoronto.ca in order for the grant to be paid.

France Canada Research Fund Cotutelle Award & Scholarship
The School of Graduate Studies has recently approved the Joint Educational Placement Agreement. This enables doctoral students to earn a doctorate at the University of Toronto and a recognized collaborator institution. The academic and research program of a student enrolled in a Joint Placement should be based on ongoing or developing research collaboration between supervisors and/or research groups in the two participating institutions. The Joint Placement is intended for exceptional doctoral students to pursue research opportunities and acquire research experience in two countries at an early stage in their careers.
The prize, worth $1,500, will be awarded to a Canadian or French student whose thesis has been supervised under a cotutelle program between a French institution and a Canadian university, including the University of Toronto. To apply for the 2012 Award, the applicants should have defended their thesis in a cotutelle program in 2011.

The FCRF scholarship will be awarded for the dissertation in progress of PhD student participating in the France-Canada joint PhD (cotutelle) program.
The FCRF Scholarship for thesis cotutelles finances academic study visits in France (one round-trip airfare and monthly allowance) for a Canadian doctoral student enrolled in a thesis cotutelle program between a French institution and a Canadian university, including the University of Toronto.
