About the 2019 Canadian Graduate and Professional Student Survey
Conducted every three years, the Canadian Graduate and Professional Student Survey (CGPSS)
is your chance to tell us about your experience at U of T. This feedback helps the University evaluate our graduate programs, compare our performance with peer institutions, and make strategic decisions about where and how to improve.

When did the 2019 survey take place?
The survey was available online from February 11 to March 15, 2019.
How did students access the survey?
Eligible students received an email invitation on February 11 with a unique url which will link them to the survey.
How long did the survey take to complete?
The survey took approximately 20 minutes to complete in one sitting.
Why should students do the survey?
It’s an opportunity to tell U of T what we’re doing right and where we can improve. It also allows us to evaluate and compare the graduate student experience across U of T. The aggregated results will be used by senior administrators to evaluate graduate programs and services. The results will also be used in provostial quality assurance reviews.
Were there incentives to complete the survey?
Yes. All students who complete the survey were entered in a draw for one of two $500 pre-loaded credit cards.
Who was eligible to complete the survey?
Degree-seeking students registered in Fall 2018 and Winter 2019 with a valid U of T email address. Students in certain professional programs (Executive MBA, Global Executive MBA) and diploma programs were excluded.
What questions were asked in the survey?
Students were asked about their satisfaction with the graduate experience in a number of areas: satisfaction with program, quality of interactions and coursework; professional skills development; research experience; presentations and publications; advisor and thesis/dissertation/research paper; financial support; university services; and student/social life. They were asked a number of general assessment and demographics questions.
Did other institutions besides U of T participate in the 2019 CGPSS?
Since 2007, the CGPSS has been administered nationally. Approximately 50 universities across Canada participated in the last CGPSS in 2016. A similar participation rate is expected for 2019.
