Value & Duration
The Taiwan-U of T Scholarship covers the full cost of tuition and mandatory fees (including UHIP) as well as an annual stipend equal to that normally offered by the program. The scholarship is valued at no less than $40,000 per year CAD and is available for up to four years.
Purpose
The Ministry of Education (MOE), Taiwan and the University of Toronto (U of T) have entered into an agreement to support Taiwanese students pursuing doctoral education at U of T. This collaboration aims to strengthen academic exchange and promote the development of highly qualified professionals while fostering bilateral cooperation between Taiwan and Canada.
The Taiwan-U of T Scholarship is a co-funded program in which MOE and U of T share (1:1) the costs of tuition, fees, and stipends (normal funding commitment) for eligible Taiwanese students admitted to a PhD program at U of T. The program is expected to support up to five (5) doctoral students per year for the initial five-year term (2026-27 to 2030-31), with funding for a maximum of four (4) years per student.
Eligibility
In order to qualify for the Taiwan-U of T Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be citizens of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and normally reside in Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, or Matsu;
- Submit an application to MOE before the deadline stated in the MOE scholarship announcement in the fall;
- Apply for admission to a U of T PhD program in accordance with the University’s standard procedures before the published scholarship application deadline (current U of T PhD students are not eligible);
- Receive an offer of admission to a U of T PhD program commencing fall 2026
- Maintain enrollment and good academic standing throughout the period of scholarship support.
