Purpose
The University Doctoral Excellence Award (UDEA) is a Provostial scholarship initiative supported by the University Fund through the School of Graduate Studies. The award is designed to recognize outstanding doctoral achievement by celebrating excellence at a critical stage of the PhD journey, and provide meaningful financial support, ensuring recipients are well supported as they advanced their research. Each year, 50 new awards of $10,000 will be available across all academic divisions.
Eligibility
In addition to any additional divisional-level criteria applicants will:
- Be registered in a research-stream doctoral program (PhD or SJD)
- Have achieved candidacy and within the time limit for their degree
- Expect to register in the next academic year, i.e. fall 2026 to take up the award
- Demonstrate exceptional performance by consistently exceeding established benchmarks within the discipline
Application Process
Academic divisions will establish their own timelines, application, eligibility criteria, adjudication to best align with local award processes and initiatives.
Results
Results will be communicated to applicants by each division prior to the fall academic session.
Payment will be issued by the School of Graduate Studies to award recipients in one installment, in the fall session following the release of results.
