- Notes for Canada
A “recognized university” in Canada is one which has been granted authority to issue degrees by the appropriate provincial or territorial government. The Directory of Universities, Colleges and Schools in the Provinces and Territories of Canada, maintained by the Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials (CICIC) in consultation with the provincial/territorial ministries and departments responsible for education, has information on institutions that have received provincial or territorial authority to grant academic credentials.
The authority to issue a bachelor’s or master’s degree does not necessarily mean the credential is an appropriate degree for admission to graduate studies. Caution should be exercised when dealing with institutions with which you are unfamiliar. Contact SGS if in doubt.
Canadian citizens with an admitting degree from a Canadian university where the language of instruction and examination is French are not required to submit an English-language proficiency test.
