- Notes for Chile
The Título (Profesional) de [subject area] is widely offered as a combined program, allowing students to obtain the Título (Professional) de [subject area] upon completion of an additional year to a year and half of study on top of the Grado de Licenciado.
Upon successful completion, two certificates (Grado de Licenciado en [subject area] (considered comparable to Bachelor Honours degree standard) and Título(Professional) de [subject area]) are awarded, nonetheless this represents a single combined programme, rather than the completion of two separate full-time courses.
The current Bachillerato programs leading to the title of Bachiller are normally short academic programs. Their purpose is primarily to prepare students for further university study.
The programs focus on a mixture of compulsory and optional general and introductory units of study. Students who successfully complete the Bachillerato are given credit for studies undertaken and may apply to continue their studies towards a Licenciado or professional title, usually at the same university at which the Bachiller studies were undertaken.
Pre-university education is 12 years.
Licencia de Educación Media and University Entrance Exam required for admission to Universities.
4-year professional courses from the professional institutes are not considered to be at the level of a first university degree.
A grade of 7 is rarely, if ever, awarded.
