Notes for Ukraine

Pre-university education normally requires 11 years of school. Some pre-university programs require a total of 12 years of school. A Certificate of Completed Secondary Education is granted to students who finish high school level programmes, and is required for university admission. Entrance exams, qualifications tests and/or qualifying interviews are required by some universities for undergraduate admission.

Bologna compliance
Ukraine signed up to the Bologna process in 2005. Since 2006/2007 ECTS has been introduced for all programmes of the first and second cycles. The first cycle qualification, a Bachelor’s requires 180-240 ECTS credits. SGS minimum admission requirement is at least 4 years university study or 240 ECTS. The second cycle results in a Master`s degree, requiring 60-120 ECTS credits. The third cycle of doctoral level studies requires a minimum of three years in duration.

Accredited institutions
There are four levels of post-secondary institution accreditation. Current transcripts indicate the level of accreditation of the issuing institution. Level I and II institutions may be compared to technical and vocational institutions. Level III or Level IV institutions degrees are appropriate admitting degrees. Universities, Institutes and Academies are accredited at Level III or IV.

Grading System
Since 2000 a new 12 point scale has been introduced. Use the U of T 12 point scale for equivalency.
