Disagreeing Respectfully in Speech and Writing – Synchronous Online Workshop
June 1, 2021 @ 9:30 am – 11:00 am EDT
This synchronous online workshop is taught by Clare Nippard
Graduate students are expected to engage in academic discussion – both spoken and written – and this requires providing opinions as well as responding to the ideas of others. As such, academic engagement inevitably involves the expression of disagreement. A central challenge is determining how to clearly express this disagreement without causing unintentional offence. This workshop will examine ways to express our argument effectively without damaging professional relationships and will provide strategies for remaining respectful without compromising academic goals.
This is the second of 4 workshops in the Academic Writing/Speaking for Multilingual Speakers workshop series.
This workshop will be offered live online and will not be recorded. Please register to receive a link to join the workshop at the scheduled time. If you are not able to register online or if you are not a currently registered U of T graduate student, please contact Lauren at email@example.com and she will register you manually.
