Giving Feedback on Student Writing (for TAs) – Synchronous Online Workshop

  • This event has passed.

October 20, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm EDT

This synchronous workshop will be taught by Stephanie Redekop.

Graduate student TAs are frequently required to read and provide feedback on student writing, often within tight time constraints (be they quick grading timelines or short office hour appointments). While TAs are generally well equipped to give students feedback on the content of their written assignments, they may feel less prepared to offer meaningful feedback on their students’ writing itself. This workshop will discuss strategies for responding impactfully to student writing. We will discuss how to prioritize the most important writing issues and develop vocabularies to address common problems in student writing. We will also learn how to present feedback in a way that does not simply identify errors, but empowers students to become more effective writers in the future.

This is the sixth of 6 workshops in the Getting Through Graduate Work (Thursdays) workshop series.

This workshop will be offered live online and will not be recorded.
