Participating in Academic Discussion – Synchronous Online Workshop

  • This event has passed.

January 21 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am EST

Free

This synchronous online workshop is taught by Clare Nippard.

Graduate students are expected to engage in academic discussion, and this requires providing opinions as well as responding to the ideas of others. However, we may sometimes leave an academic discussion feeling that we didn’t express ourselves effectively, perhaps because we were uncomfortable disagreeing or because we couldn’t find the right moment to interject. This workshop will provide strategies for expressing opinions and contributing to the discussion while minimizing misunderstandings and unintentional offence.

This is the second of 5 workshops in the Preparing for Academic Writing and Speaking in English workshop series.

This workshop will be offered live online and will not be recorded. Please register to receive a link to join the workshop at the scheduled time. If you are not able to register online or if you are not currently a registered U of T graduate student, please contact Sarah at sgs.gcac@utoronto.ca and she will register you manually.
