Speaking Up and Being Heard in Academic Settings – Online Workshop

  • This event has passed.

February 9, 2021 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm EST

Free

This online workshop is taught by Clare Nippard

Being able to speak convincingly in a variety of informal academic contexts demands more than the one-way delivery of information. Communication is a two-way process, so what do we need to do to make sure our message is understood? How do we speak with confidence and authority while listening with empathy and respect? This workshop will cover strategies for listening actively, analyzing hidden assumptions, and engaging confidently and productively.

This is the second of 2 workshops in the Preparing for Academic Writing and Speaking in English workshop series.

This workshop will be offered live online and will not be recorded. Please register to receive a link to join the workshop at the scheduled time. If you are not able to register online or if you are not a currently registered U of T graduate student, please contact Lauren at sgs.gcac@utoronto.ca and she will register you manually.
