UTGSU’s Race and Ethnicity Caucus presents: “Safe Space for Race: Race and the Workplace”
The majoritarian narrative of research on racialized people in the workplace typically identifies deficits in the racialized community. However, critical race scholars have explored the experiences of racialized communities and shared counternarratives that identify skills and knowledge that are undervalued or misrecognized in the Canadian workplace.

This SSFR session will unpack experiences through counternarratives of the REC community. Collectively, we will discuss the following questions framed around Yosso’s Community Cultural Wealth Model to unpack race and the workplace:

  • What skills and knowledge help or helped you navigate through different workplaces?
  • How have you drawn on your resources such as family, community, or culture?
  • How do you address oppressive or exclusionary practices and/or behaviours?
  • How do you imagine yourself in the workplace a few years from now?
  • Who do you draw from for inspiration? Support? Mentorship?

We look forward to having these conversations and hope you will join us to share your experiences, understand the problems facing our communities, and learn from each other!

This event will be held on Zoom on February 24, 2021, from 6-8pm.
Registration required.
