Using Online Language Tools for Academic Writing – Synchronous Online Workshop

  • This event has passed.

February 16, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm EST

This synchronous online workshop is taught by Elena Danilina

Emerging AI-based language tools for academic learning offer opportunities for students to make choices in their own writing, and yet almost every online tool advises students to check their own work. In this 90-minute workshop, we will examine the dangers of using these tools inappropriately and explore strategies for using online language tools, such as Writefull and Ref-n-Write, to develop and  proofread your work. We will learn how to use built-in academic phrasebanks, generate ideas for your writing, and avoid plagiarism and self-plagiarism issues.

This is the last of 6 workshops in the Academic Writing and Speaking in English for Multilingual Students workshop series.

This workshop will be offered live online and will not be recorded. Please register by clicking the “REGISTER” link below to receive the confirmation e-mail with the workshop details. If you are unable to register online, or if you are not a currently registered U of T graduate student, please contact sgs.gcac@utoronto.ca to be registered manually.
