Working with Sources: Joining an Academic Conversation – Synchronous Online Workshop

  • This event has passed.

February 8, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm EST

This synchronous workshop will be taught by Stephanie Redekop.

Graduate writers must situate their work in relation to the work of other scholars; however, joining an academic conversation is often more complex than simply agreeing or disagreeing with what others have said. By surveying a range of possible ways to work with sources, this workshop will help graduate researchers to nuance their engagement with other scholars and strengthen the impact of their written arguments. Scholars often explain, extend, apply, and critique the work of others in a range of different ways over the course of a single written argument. We will therefore consider prewriting strategies for evaluating a source’s specific value to the writer’s own arguments, as well as rhetorical and organizational strategies for engaging with sources dynamically and appropriately.

This is the fourth of 5 workshops in the Getting Through Graduate Work: Wednesday workshop series.
