Notes for Netherlands

The Netherlands introduced Bologna-compliant bachelor’s degrees in 2002, offering 180-credit and 240-credit programs. Applicants with 180-credit bachelor’s are considered for admission on a case-by-case basis; units must submit NSA petitions if they wish to offer admission to such a student.

Four-year bachelor’s programs from hogescholen (applied science universities), although they carry an ECTS weight of 240 credits, include a nine-month work placement. Graduates of HBO bachelor’s programs do not have access to Master’s programs at Dutch research universities, but can access Master’s programs at hogescholen. Applicants with HBO bachelor’s degrees can be considered on a case-by-case basis for non-standard admission.
