Strategies for Clarifying English Pronunciation (Online Synchronous Workshop)

  • This event has passed.

September 21, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm EDT

This workshop is taught by Dr. Adeiza Isiaka.

This workshop is designed for non-native English speakers who want to improve their pronunciation skills and become more confident in speaking intelligibly. Unlike in many languages, English words are often not pronounced as spelled, and words with multiple syllables can be challenging for learners to realize. The good news, however, is that English pronunciation is mostly governed by learnable rules. In this workshop, we will walk through the patterns of word and sentence stress as well as sounds in connected speech. We will also explore some strategies for pronouncing most new words you come across.

This is the 2nd of 5 workshops in the Academic Writing and Speaking in English: Thursday series.
