Using Corpora to Improve your Academic Writing (Online Synchronous Workshop)

This workshop will demonstrate how a corpus – a large electronic collection of texts – can assist you during the academic writing process. Corpora can be searched to provide insight into how language is used in authentic contexts. The workshop will introduce you to several ready-made corpora that can be accessed online as well as software that allows you to create your own corpus. We will discuss how consulting a corpus can help you resolve doubts related to verb tense, prepositions, vocabulary usage, and other aspects of academic writing.
