Writing Effective Abstracts

May 16, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm EDT

Workshop taught by Stephanie Redekop

This synchronous workshop will be offered online and will not be recorded. Please register to recieve the link to join at the scheduled time.

Graduate students are asked to write abstracts in many contexts, including when submitting articles and applying for conferences and grants. While these abstracts can sometimes feel like an afterthought when compared to the demands of a larger research project, this workshop will help attendees to understand the purpose of this brief but important genre. Examining a range of examples, we will identify strategies to help you make the most of your limited word count and craft an abstract that showcases the value of your research. Specific topics of discussion will include organizing the abstract clearly, introducing your research area succinctly, and framing your findings effectively.

This is the first of 4 workshops in the Types of Writing workshop series.
