Dr. Jay Olson

Jay Olson is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Psychology. He studies a range of topics across psychology and medicine including placebo effects, sleep, creativity, smartphone addiction, and psychedelic drugs. He did his previous training at McGill University (MSc and PhD) and Harvard University (postdoc).

Jay is a writing consultant for two courses on funding proposals. Throughout his graduate and postdoctoral studies, he has been awarded over $1.5 million in funding from CIHR, SSHRC, NSERC, IRSST, FRQS, FRQSC, and other unpronounceable acronyms. He wrote a guide on effective funding titled Million Dollar PhD.

In addition, Jay is a teaching assistant for the Oral Presentation Skills course. He has led workshops on effective public speaking for over 10 years, including at institutions such as Harvard Medical School and Techstars. In 2018, he won the CAGS 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) competition at McGill University and the CGS 3MT competition for all of North America.
