Supporting your success—in every way
At the School of Graduate Studies (SGS), your wellness matters as much as your academic achievements. Graduate school can be both exciting and challenging, and we’re here to ensure you have the resources and support you need to succeed in every aspect of your journey. Through our three dedicated centres, we provide a wide range of academic and professional supports, helping you thrive academically, professionally and personally.

You can access resources and programming at different stages of your graduate journey—whenever you need them most—through our three centres.
Graduate Centre for Academic Communication (GCAC)
Graduate students need to be able to communicate sophisticated information to sophisticated audiences. Many graduate students have never submitted a conference abstract, funding proposal or academic publication, and they need strong communication skills to succeed in their graduate degree. GCAC provides support with written and oral communication skills to complement the training graduate students receive in their academic programs through writing consultations, workshops and non-credit courses for graduate students. Workshops are also open to University of Toronto postdocs.
Centre for Graduate Mentorship & Supervision (CGMS)
The supervisory relationship between faculty and graduate students is at the core of graduate education and researcher development. Supervising graduate students can be incredibly rewarding for faculty supervisors, but it is a shared responsibility between student and supervisor that sometimes requires support. CGMS helps faculty and students who seek confidential support with any aspect of their supervisory relationship. CGMS also provides training in interpersonal skills for both students and faculty supervisors to help support effective, productive supervisory relationships.
Centre for Graduate Professional Development (CGPD)
A central hub for graduate student professional development at the university. CGPD supports everyone involved in graduate professional development at U of T, through professional development programming, wayfinding to U of T resources and supporting staff and faculty who are engaged with graduate professional development.
